A Hand Up for Community Museums

Our Mission: Museum Development Associates (MDA) is a nonprofit building long-term partnerships that invigorate community cultural organizations.

Museum Development Associates, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was founded in 2005 as a nonprofit field services organization, to provide a variety of services related to improving the operations and infrastructure of small, rural and start-up cultural institutions. MDA offers affordable contract services that include: temporary professional staffing, training in collections care and museum practice, conservation assessments, museum inventories, and exhibition development and management. In addition, we provide a monthly online newsletter by subscription, a computer listserv, telephone consultations, ready resources, and direct consultations and support.

Our clients include museums of history, art and archaeology, as well as economic development groups and humanities agencies.  We are the only museum field services organization in New Mexico that specializes in serving smaller institutions.

Small Museum Pro!
is a professional certification program for people who work, or who would like to work, in small, local museums and who need practical guidance and education on running and managing a museum.  This program is a partnership between Museum Development Associates and Eastern New Mexico University's Distance Learning Program.  To obtain a certificate, participants will need to complete all five Small Museum Pro! courses, all offered only online.  Each course earns students three Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
